BC Ferries has confirmed that vehicle and passenger fares will increase from April 1, 2012 by an average of 4.15%. This increase was approved last Spring in Bill 14, an amendment to the Coastal Ferry Act.
For future years, the fares cap (the limit imposed on fares increases by the Ferry Commissioner) has yet to be determined. Earlier this year, the Ferry Commissioner recommended that future price increases should be capped at the rate of inflation expressed in the Consumer Prices Index. This proposal has yet to be considered by the Province.
The Ferry Advisory Committee will be discussing the impact of the Ferry Commissioner’s report at its meeting on April 26th. Watch for further information on this page – we want to hear your views.
