In a conversation with the FAC yesterday, BC Ferries announced that the scope of work for the marine terminal infrastructure work on the Gabriola-Nanaimo route has been changed. The work is still scheduled to take place in the spring of 2026, and it will still include the necessary upgrades for full electric ferry operation. BC Ferries is planning to meet with the Gabriola community early in 2025 to explain the scope of the work. There will also be meetings with stakeholders on Gabriola to discuss the timing of berth closures and the provision of alternative service. More details are expected from BC Ferries before the end of this year.
The FAC has nothing further to share at this time, but will post an update on our website when more information becomes available.
Thank you again Heather — I don’t know how we’re going to deal with BCF when we don’t have a FAC…
I would be interested in participating/meeting with the Gabriola FAC, even if BC Ferries doesn’t want to!
